How science supports smarter climate adaptation across the Danube Region
Cities and regions across Europe are already experiencing the effects of climate change: more frequent floods, longer heatwaves, and growing pressure on infrastructure, ecosystems and communities. The question is no longer if adaptation is needed – but how it can be done effectively, collaboratively and in time.
To explore this challenge together, the TiCCA4DANU project and the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) invite you to a dynamic live online event on Tuesday, 12 May 2026 between 14:00 – 15:30 CET.
This interactive session brings together researchers, policymakers, practitioners and stakeholders from across the Danube Region to demonstrate how climate science translates into practical solutions for cities and regions.
Why climate adaptation needs science – and cooperation
Climate adaptation decisions affect how cities invest, plan infrastructure, protect citizens and prepare for future risks. But these decisions must be grounded in reliable evidence.
The TiCCA4DANU project shows how scientific knowledge becomes actionable guidance that helps:
This live event will demonstrate how these processes work in practice – not only in theory.
Participants will discover how collaboration between municipalities, researchers, financial actors and governance innovators is already shaping climate-ready solutions across the Danube Region.
What to expect during the live event
The event is designed as an engaging dialogue between science and practice. Instead of technical lectures, short expert inputs are combined with discussion and visual examples that illustrate how climate adaptation tools are used on the ground.
Interactive audience participation will be supported through live questions and engagement tools.
Whether you are working in public administration, research, business, civil society – or simply interested in how your region prepares for climate challenges – this event connects climate science with everyday decision-making.
Meet the speakers
The session brings together leading experts and practitioners working at the intersection of research, policy and implementation.

Practical municipal experience from Debrecen
Mariann Andorkó (EDC Debrecen Urban and Economic Development Center)
Real-world examples showing how climate adaptation strategies are implemented locally and how research results support municipal decision-making processes.
From research results to real-world action
One of the key strengths of the TiCCA4DANU project is its ability to connect research, policy, municipal implementation and financing mechanisms. This event demonstrates how these elements work together to strengthen climate resilience across the Danube Region.
Participants will gain insight into:
Who should participate?
The event is designed for a broad audience and uses accessible language suitable for both specialists and non-specialists.
It is particularly relevant for policymakers and public authorities, regional and municipal representatives, companies and infrastructure operators, NGOs and civil society organisations, students and researchers, anyone interested in climate-ready cities.
