How can regions better prepare for the growing impacts of climate change? What financing models can support the efficient implementation of adaptation measures? And how can collaboration between local, regional, national, and European actors accelerate climate resilience?

These questions will be at the centre of the upcoming Climate Conference, taking place on 7–8 October 2026 at Hotel Habakuk in Maribor, Slovenia. The event will bring together key stakeholders from the Podravje region and beyond to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and explore concrete pathways for advancing climate change adaptation.

The conference is organised in collaboration with several important regional and national actors, including RDA Podravje – MariborMaribor MunicipalityENERGAP – Energy and Climate Agency for Podravje, and the Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development. It will also create a space for exchange between several European projects working on climate adaptation, regional development, and sustainability, including TiCCA4DANUClimateGOClimatix, and others.

A key focus of the conference will be on how to prepare the Podravje region to become more resilient in the face of climate-related challenges. Discussions will address practical approaches to climate change adaptation, examples of successful measures from other regions, and opportunities to identify optimal financing models for the implementation of adaptation actions.

The event will also highlight the role of Local Green Deals (LGDs) as an important mechanism for translating climate ambitions into concrete action at local and regional level. By bringing together municipalities, agencies, ministries, experts, and EU-funded initiatives, the conference aims to support an integrated and collaborative approach to resilience-building.

A special emphasis will be placed on the TiCCA4DANU Open Discovery Process workshops, which will provide an interactive setting for stakeholders to jointly explore regional climate adaptation needs, challenges, and opportunities. These workshops are designed to support co-creation, strengthen dialogue, and contribute to the development of transformative adaptation pathways in the Danube Region.

The conference will also demonstrate the value of cooperation between projects funded under different European programmes, including Horizon EuropeInterreg EuropeErasmus+, and others. By connecting complementary initiatives, the event aims to encourage synergies, avoid duplication, and strengthen the collective impact of EU-supported climate action in the region.

Through knowledge exchange, practical discussions, and cross-project collaboration, the Climate Conference in Maribor will contribute to building a more resilient Podravje region and support broader efforts toward climate adaptation across the Danube Region.
