We are proud to share that TiCCA4DANU has been officially recognized as a Danube Strategy Flagship project under the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). This prestigious designation highlights TiCCA4DANU’s macro-regional relevance and its strong alignment with the EUSDR’s vision of fostering innovation, collaboration, and resilience across the Danube macro-region.

The Flagship status was officially announced during TiCCA4DANU’s first General Assembly, held on 26–27 June 2025 in Vienna, where representatives from across Europe gathered to discuss the project’s ambitions and early milestones. The recognition was formally presented by Dr. Jaroslava Szüdi, representative of Priority Area 7 (Knowledge Society), the EUSDR branch dedicated to strengthening research, innovation, and digital capacities across the region.+

This status underscores TiCCA4DANU’s strategic importance and potential to make a lasting impact by advancing systemic and fair approaches to climate adaptation in one of Europe’s most climate-vulnerable areas. By connecting cities and their surrounding rural regions through a city-region approach, TiCCA4DANU is building frameworks for collaboration that not only support climate resilience but also foster innovation and inclusivity.

Being named a Flagship project also provides new opportunities for greater visibility, enhanced credibility, stronger partnerships and more opportunities for collaboration, and deeper engagement with stakeholders across the Danube macro-region. It reflects confidence in TiCCA4DANU’s mission to demonstrate how innovative, place-based strategies can help communities adapt to the challenges of climate change — and to do so in ways that are systemic, equitable, and sustainable.

As Project Coordinator Dr. Oliver Ziegler noted:

“This award reinforces our ambition to build a robust and collaborative partner network across the Danube Region — affirming that the project’s outcomes should reach well beyond the initial pilot city-regions.”

With this recognition, TiCCA4DANU joins an exclusive group of projects shaping the future of the Danube macro-region under the EUSDR’s Priority Area 7.
